There's a cupcake craze going on! Everyone loves to decorate and eat cupcakes. We have created simple, quick and fun cupcakes for different occasions. Take our ideas, but we encourage you to create your own!

Autumn Cupcakes
Great for the dessert table at Thanksgiving!

Autumn Cupcakes

You Need:

  • Any flavor cupcakes, baked, cooled and refrigerated
  • 1 tub of store-bought dark chocolate frosting
  • 1 tub of store-bought white or vanilla frosting
  • Variety of candies and sprinkles
  • #2 decorating tip
  • Disposable decorating bags
  • Orange Americolor food gel

Step-by-Step:

  1. Put frosting in a microwave safe bowl. Microwave frosting for 10 seconds. Your frosting needs to melt enough to look a glaze.
  2. Carefully dip the tops of your cupcakes into the glaze. Allow the glaze to dry for 15 minutes or longer.
  3. Mix orange gel paste in white frosting to make a vibrant orange color. Insert writing tip into decorating bag. Snip end of bag about Ĺ inch.
  4. Make designs on top of the cupcakes with orange frosting. Use a toothpick to create the web look.
  5. Adorn the cupcakes with candies and sprinkles.

Holiday Cupcakes

Winter Cupcakes

You Need:

  • Any flavor cupcakes, baked, cooled and refrigerated
  • 1 tub of store-bought white or vanilla frosting
  • 1 recipe of Wonder Cream Decorators Frosting (see frosting recipes)
  • Variety of candies and sprinkles

Supplies Needed:

  • Holly & Berries Cupcake: Small star tip - #16, disposable decorator bag, leaf green food paste/gel, red hots candies
  • Christmas Tree Cupcake: Small star tip - #16, disposable decorator bag, leaf green food paste/gel, multi-colored tree lights quins, mini red hearts quins
  • Christmas Wreath Cupcake: Small star tip - #16, disposable decorator bag, leaf green food paste/gel, mini red hearts quins, white Airheads candy (for bow)
  • Christmas Tree Ornament Cupcake: Small writing tip - #2, disposable decorator bag, Christmas tree quins, red sugar, gum drops
  • Snowman Cupcake: Small star tip - #16, disposable decorator bag, sky blue food paste/gel, black gel tube (buy in grocery store), orange gum drop (for nose), snowflake quins
  • Snowflake Cupcake: Small writing tip - #2, disposable decorator bag, blue food paste/gel (add coloring to tub of frosting).
  • Cute Christmas Tree Cupcake: Small star tip - #16, disposable decorator bag, leaf green food paste/gel, snowflake quins

Cute Cupcake Tree
No one will know it's cupcakes!

Cute Cupcake Tree

You Need:

  • 11 or more cupcakes, baked, cooled and refrigerated
  • 1 recipe of Wonder Cream Frosting (see frosting recipes)

Supplies Needed: Small star tip - #16, medium star tip - #18, 2 disposable decorator bag, Xmas red Americolor food paste/gel, leaf green food paste/gel, red licorice rope, gum balls or mini jaw breakers.

Step-by-Step:

  1. Arrange cupcakes into a tree shape (I used 10 for the tree and one for the tree base). To make the base I cut one cup cake in half and place half piece on bottom of tree.
  2. Mix green food gel with ĺ of white frosting. Insert #18 tip into decorator bag. Add green frosting. Starting at the bottom of the tree, make large tight uís along the tree outline. Continue to add another line of tight uís until you get to the top of the tree.
  3. Mix red food gel with remaining white frosting. Insert #16 tip into decorator bag. Add red frosting. Make small uís along base of tree. Make red star at the top of the tree.
  4. Cut licorice rope to make string of lights. Adorn with colorful gumballs or jaw breakers.

Cherry-Fudge Cupcakes
So easy, so divine

Makes 24 2-inch diameter cupcakes
Ingredients:
1 package devilís food cake mix
1 (21-oz.) can cherry pie filling
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon almond flavoring or extract

Step-by-Step:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C).
  2. Line cupcake pan with liners
  3. In large bowl, beat ingredients together on low speed for 20 seconds. Increase speed for at least one minute until well mixed.
  4. Pour into cupcake liners about 2/3 full. Bake for 20 Ė 25 minutes, depending on your oven. Check for doneness before removing from oven. Cool and refrigerate prior to decorating.

Apple Ginger Spice Cupcakes
Sweet memories of holiday traditions

Makes 24 2-inch diameter cupcakes
Ingredients:
1 package gingerbread cake mix
1 (21-oz.) can apple pie filling
2 large eggs
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon almond flavoring or extract

Step-by-Step:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C).
  2. Line cupcake pan with liners
  3. In large bowl, beat ingredients together on low speed for 20 seconds. Increase speed for at least one minute until well mixed.
  4. Pour into cupcake liners about 2/3 full. Bake for 20 Ė 25 minutes, depending on your oven. Check for doneness before removing from oven. Cool and refrigerate prior to decorating.

Flower Bunch Cupcakes

Itís a small cake baked in a cup-size baking pan (cupcake pan).You can use a cupcake liner when you bake a cupcake. There are paper and foil liners and silicone liners.

Why do people love cupcakes?
Every person gets his or her own little decorated cake.

What do you need to make a decorated cupcake?

  • A baked and cooled cupcake (use any of our recipes)
  • White or colored frosting (use our WonderCream frosting in our recipe section)
  • Edible toppings or non-edible toppings (plastic figurines etc.)

Supplies:

  • Baked and cooled cupcakes
  • Disposable decorator bags 
  • Decorating tips 
  • Bowl to mix frosting colors
  • Spoon or spatula
  • Americolor Food Gel Paste to color frosting  
  • Candies or non-edible toppings to decorate cake

Cupcake Creations

Sprinkles

You need:

  • Small shape cookie cutter
  • Colored sugar or sprinkles (we carry a variety of colors) 
  • Colored frosting (use Americolor food gel paste)

Frost the cupcake using a #16 star tip and decorator bag. Starting in the center of the cupcakes, make a swirl of the frosting to cover the entire cupcake. Place small cookie cutter on top of cupcake. With your fingers, carefully sprinkle colored sugar inside the cookie cutter. Carefully lift the cutter up.

A Single Rose

You need:

  • Red/pink/white and green Airheads candy
  • White or colored frosting
  • Toothpicks (optional)
  • #16 star decorating tip and decorator bag

Insert star tip into decorator bag. Add white or colored frosting. Make small uís in a swirl to cover entire cupcake. Using a red, pink or white airhead, carefully wrap around to make a rose petal. Lay onto the cupcake or attach to a toothpick to make rose stand up. Cut small leaf shapes with green Airheads. Attach to the sides of the rose.

Stars & Stripes

You need:

  • White frosting
  • Blue Airheads
  • Red licorice -cut in small pieces
  • #16 star tip and decorator bag

Insert star tip into decorator bag. Add white frosting. Make extended uís along the cupcake to make the strips of the flag. Cut a ľ circle shape of blue airhead. Add blue piece to make part of the flag. Lay red licorice pieces to make the red stripes. Add small star dots with the white frosting to make the stars.

Let's Party

You need:

  • Straws - cut in 1 inch pieces
  • Fruit roll-ups - cut in six and two inch pieces
  • Colored frosting (of your choice) 
  • Bubble gum balls or small candies
  • Candy sprinkles
  • #16 star decorating tip and decorator bag

Insert star tip into decorator bag. Add colored frosting. Make long lís along the entire cupcakes. Using the long piece of fruit roll-up, attach one end to the straw. Roll the other side to create a party blower. Wrap the 2-inch roll-up piece to secure the party blower. Place gum ball on cupcake. Rest the straw onto the gumball. Sprinkle candy sprinkles on top.

Turtl-rific!

You need:

  • Green frosting (Leaf green Americolor food gel)
  • Vanilla wafers
  • Red, green, blue and brown/orange M & Mís
  • #16 star decorating tip and decorator bag

Insert star tip into decorator bag. Add green frosting. Make large swirl to cover the entire cupcake. Place a vanilla wafer on cupcake to make a turtle face. Make a swirl of green frosting on the wafer. Add green M & Mís on the turtle body, brown or orange M & Mís for the feet. Add red for the mouth. Add blue M & Mís for the eyes.

Flower Pop!
(these cupcakes are found on page 66 of "Creative Cakes Anyone Can Make")

You need:

  • White and colored frosting
  • Small star tip and medium star tip
  • Decorator bag
  • Mike & Ike candies
  • Small lollipop

Insert medium star tip into decorator bag. Add white frosting. Frost the cupcake with white frosting in a swirl. Insert small star tip into decorator bag. Add colored frosting. Starting from the center of the cupcake, begin make large lís to make flower petals. Insert lollipop in the center. Add candies inside each petal.

Cupcake Frosting Recipes

Wonder Cream Frosting
You Need:

  • 1 tub (16 oz. vanilla frosting
  • 1 tub (16 oz) Criscoģ shortening (use tub of frosting to measure)
  • 1 box powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup warm water

How-To-Make: In a mixing bowl combine the frosting and tub of shortening. On low speed, beat the frosting and shortening until mixed well. While mixer is still on, slowly add the powdered sugar. Add a small amount of warm water until the mixture is smooth. Once all the ingredients are mixed together, beat for about one minute longer. If the frosting seems stiff, add some more warm water. If the frosting seems too runny, add powdered sugar.

Vanilla or Chocolate Buttercream Frosting
You Need:

  • 2 sticks unsalted softened butter
  • 4 Cups (1 pound) powdered sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons heavy cream or milk
  • 1 Tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

How-To-Make: In a mixing bowl combine butter, sugar, extract and cream and salt. On low speed mix frosting until sugar is moistened. Increase speed to medium level. Stop mixer to scrape bowl. Keep beating until smooth and fluffy- about 5 -8 minutes.

Chocolate Buttercream: With both recipes, add ĺ cup unsweetened cocoa powder to ľ cup vegetable oil. Stir until a chocolate paste. Add to white or vanilla frosting until thoroughly mixed.

Easy-To-Make Cupcakes:

  1. Red Rose: Using a red and green Airhead candy, wrap around to create a rose. With scissors, cut a leaf shape to attach to bottom of rose.
  2. Red Ribbon: Pipe white frosting to decorate top of cupcake. Make red ribbon with red Airhead candy by cutting ĺ inch lengths. Fold ends to the center and pinch to create the bow. Cut ribbon ends and attach to bottom of bow.
  3. USA Star: Pipe blue frosting to decorate top of cupcake. Using small star cookie cutter or stencil, sprinkle red sprinkles. With #3 tip and white frosting in a decorator bag, write USA.
  4. Party Streamers: With Airheads candy, cut Ĺ inch long pieces. Using a bamboo stick, wrap Airhead candy strip around to slide off to create a streamers.
  5. Pretty flower: Put store-bought tub of lemon frosting into the microwave and heat till soft. (about 10 seconds) Dip cupcake into the frosting to coat the top of the cupcake. Allow to cool. Using Airheads candy, microwave for 8 seconds until soft. Cut flowers using flower cookie cutters. Place onto cupcakes.
  6. Frosting Rose: Using #104 tip and violet frosting, create roses and place onto the cupcake.
  7. Rainbow Butterfly: Cut butterfly wings using rainbow Nerds pieces. Place sour worm in middle of cupcake for the body. Add wings to the sides.
  8. Flower Pop: Using green frosting, decorate top of cupcake. With #16 tip and blue frosting, make a flower design and adorn with Mike and Ike candies and sucker.
